Material Handler
The Material Handler supports manufacturing operations by managing incoming raw materials and outgoing finished instruments from an offsite warehouse. This role focuses on accurate receiving, inventory control, and global shipping, using an ERP system to ensure all parts and products are correctly labeled, stored, and transferred. The position requires strong attention to detail, comfort with numbers, and the flexibility to take on new tasks as the needs of the warehouse and manufacturing teams evolve.
Responsibilities
- Receive incoming packages from carriers such as UPS, Fed Ex, Amazon, and occasional palletized shipments, ensuring all deliveries are handled promptly and accurately.
- Break down pallets, remove packaging materials, and organize incoming goods for storage or further processing.
- Store raw materials and parts in the appropriate inventory locations, using carts and other warehouse equipment to move items safely and efficiently.
- Label all parts, materials, and finished goods accurately to ensure proper identification, traceability, and inventory control.
- Perform regular cycle counts once or twice per week to maintain accurate inventory records and identify discrepancies.
- Receive and review packing slips, verify materials against documentation, and report or resolve any discrepancies found.
- Use an ERP system (Net Suite) and Outlook email to document receiving activities, update inventory records, and communicate with other departments.
- Support manufacturing by preparing and staging raw materials for shipment from the offsite warehouse to the main manufacturing facility.
- Package, label, and ship instruments and materials to domestic and international destinations, following established shipping and receiving procedures.
- Handle interdepartmental transfers, ensuring materials move accurately and efficiently between different teams and locations.
- Operate basic warehouse equipment, including pallet jacks, to safely move and organize materials.
- Work with cold storage materials when required, including handling dry ice and accessing cold rooms or minus 20°C storage locations.
- Participate in inventory audits, including year-end inventory activities that may require overtime or weekend work.
- Adapt to new tasks and responsibilities as needed, supporting a small team with a variety of warehouse and logistics operations.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience in shipping and receiving operations, including handling packages and palletized shipments.
- Strong numerical skills with the ability to perform accurate counting and data entry for inventory and ERP records.
- Hands-on experience with inventory control activities such as receiving, storage, labeling, and cycle counts.
- Ability to receive and review packing slips, verify materials, and identify discrepancies.
- Proficiency with ERP systems, preferably Net Suite, for managing inventory and transaction data.
- Comfort using email platforms such as Outlook for communication and coordination.
- Ability to operate basic warehouse equipment, including pallet jacks and carts, safely and efficiently.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail in counting, labeling, and data entry.
- Flexibility to take on new tasks and adjust to changing job duties within a small team environment.
- Capability to work overtime as needed, including occasional weekend work for inventory audits.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with cold chain operations, including working with cold rooms and minus 20°C storage, is a plus.
- Familiarity with handling dry ice and materials requiring cold storage conditions.
- Experience in instrument shipping or managing global shipments is beneficial.
- Prior experience supporting manufacturing or production environments from a warehouse or logistics role.
- Comfort working in a small, collaborative team where responsibilities may extend beyond a traditional job description.
