Inventory Control & Analysis, Supply Chain & Logistics, Distribution/ General Warehouse
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Tool Crib Manager oversees the daily operation of the tool crib, ensuring tools, equipment, and hardware are available, maintained, and accurately tracked to support field and shop operations. This role manages inventory, budgets, safety, and vendor relationships while leading the Tool Crib team to provide efficient and reliable service. Depending on the size of the operation, the Tool Crib Manager either supervises staff or performs day-to-day tool crib and warehouse activities, including inventory control, equipment staging, storage, and delivery coordination.
- Manages the workload of assigned reports, conducting performance evaluations and supporting professional development; in smaller or single-person cribs, directly executes daily warehouse and administrative operations with high independence.
- Enforces responsible inventory management by labeling shelves with minimum/maximum "just-in-time" quantities, storing tools in designated zones, and maintaining clear, clean laydown areas for oversized equipment.
- Partners with the purchasing department to order tools and hardware from the primary preferred vendor, utilizing a secondary primary vendor to resolve backorders and proactively notifying impacted personnel of fulfillment delays.
- Manages relationships with key external vendors, maximizing manufacturer warranty, repair, and buy-back programs, and communicating promotional specials to purchasing and the logistics manager for vetting.
- Oversees logistics operations, coordinates combined deliveries and pickups with local construction operations departments, and provides hands-on shipping and receiving support when operating without dedicated crib staff.
- Establishes, implements, and monitors departmental safety and in-house cleaning protocols, maintaining a tidy workspace free of debris and hazards using 5S Housekeeping Methodologies.
- Supervises the strategic alignment and day-to-day use of inventory management databases, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and business-owned rental applications across related business units.
- Directs regular stock audits and high-level inventory reconciliations to resolve discrepancies, analyzing tool wear patterns and consumption rates to support predictive tool management.
- Partners with estimating, project management, and field operations to forecast tool and equipment requirements for upcoming project life cycles.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
