Position: Special Education Teacher (Extensive Support Needs)

McKinley is a well-established welfare organization in southern California offering programs such as short-term residential treatment, foster care, adoptions, mental health services, and special education.

The Position

Special Education Teacher in an elementary or secondary setting who plans, organizes, and delivers specialized instructional programs while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team and under the supervision of the principal.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range: $70,304 - $76,000 annually

Qualifications
  • Current California Intern/Preliminary/Clear Extensive Needs Education Specialist Credential
  • Experience working with students with learning, emotional and behavioral disabilities, autism spectrum, speech and communication disorders preferred
  • Preferred:
    Prior teaching experience in a non-public school special education setting
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite and other office related software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • General administrative and clerical abilities
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination, tuberculosis (TB) test, and drug screening
Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and implement engaging daily lessons aligned with the approved curriculum
  • Conduct pre- and post-testing using standardized teacher-developed tests
  • Develop, implement, and present IEPs in collaboration with students, parents, and other educators
  • Manage classroom behavior in a respectful, structured, and trauma-informed manner
  • Maintain accurate and timely records, progress reports, and documentation
  • Demonstrate competency in all subject areas and schedule the classroom day to include instruction in all curriculum areas
  • Actively participate in Interdisciplinary Treatment Meetings
  • Collaborate with the team to develop and implement effective instructional strategies
  • Communicate effectively with parents, teachers, and stakeholders to ensure student success
  • Supervise instructional aides assigned to the classroom
  • Actively participate in the agency’s Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) plan
  • Maintain an active teaching credential, license, or permit
  • Use a personal cell phone for work-related communication when agency radios and phones are not available
  • Ability to transfer classrooms as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries at all times
  • Represent the agency in a professional, respectful manner when interacting with internal and external stakeholders
  • Complete all onboarding requirements within the designated timeframe and remain in compliance with agency expectations for timely review and acknowledgement of policies, procedures, and training
  • Perform all other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
