Position

Transdev Metrolink in San Dimas, CA is hiring for a Civil Project Engineer. The Civil Engineer is a member of the construction-estimating team who is responsible for independently preparing the civil sections of a bid project, its development and construction document estimates including soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids and scopes of work, preparing quantity surveys, and reviewing project plans and specifications for all civil categories of work (e.g. grading, underground utilities/storm drains, paving, SWPPP, BMP, etc.).

This individual will support the track construction and estimating team on the civil aspects of the project, under the supervision of the Chief Estimator.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs accurate, thorough, and timely quantity takeoffs using Excel and the company’s estimating program – Heavy Bid.
  • Communicates and obtains bid clarification on plans and specifications during the bidding process of the ITB/TFB and RFP.
  • Solicits and analyzes material pricing from vendors and subcontractors.
  • Performs technical/plan review when required.
  • Accurately assesses and plans takeoff workload.
  • Develops unit costs accurately.
  • Attends pre-bid meetings and job walks.
  • Prepares bid development and assembles final bid submission.
  • Performs other relative office/site functions when delegated.
  • Assists the Chief Estimator and PM to process submittals and shop drawings for approval.
  • Assists the Chief Estimator and PM for project change order proposals.
  • Assists the Chief Estimator and PM in the development of the bid into a project plan.
  • Communicates and coordinates with the project team on material submittals and approvals.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, Engineering, or related fields with a minimum of 3 years of civil construction and estimating experience.
  • Knowledgeable in civil/site construction such as foundation, grading and paving, underground utilities/underdrain, storm drain systems, excavation, etc.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Heavy Bid estimating software, word processing, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office products.
  • Good organizational skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and willing to work long hours including weekends when needed.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record with no more than three moving violations and no DUI’s within the last three years to be considered for the job.
  • Must pass a pre‑employment physical examination including a drug screen and alcohol test to be considered for the job.
Benefits
  • Competitive compensation between $89,000 to $115,000/year.
  • Vacation: minimum of two (2) weeks.
  • Sick days: 5 days.
  • Holidays: 12 days; 8 standard and 4 floating.

Physical Requirements
  • Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions (100% of the job is performed outside, work alone and in remote locations).
  • Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces.
  • Push and pull objects up to 25 pounds, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level.
  • Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
