Transdev Metrolink in San Dimas, CA is hiring for a Civil Project Engineer. The Civil Engineer is a member of the construction‑estimating team who is responsible for independently preparing the civil sections of a bid project, its development and construction document estimates including soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids and scopes of work, preparing quantity surveys, and reviewing project plans and specifications for all civil categories of work (e.g. grading, underground utilities/storm drains, paving, SWPPP, BMP, etc.).
This individual will support the track construction and estimating team on the civil aspects of the project, under the supervision of the Chief Estimator.
- Perform accurate, thorough, and timely quantity takeoffs using Excel and the company's estimating program – Heavy Bid.
- Communicate and obtain bid clarification on plans and specifications during the bidding process of the ITB/TFB and RFP.
- Solicit and analyze material pricing from vendors and subcontractors.
- Perform technical/plan review when required.
- Accurately assess and plan takeoff workload.
- Develop unit costs accurately.
- Attend pre‑bid meetings and job walks.
- Develop and assemble bid for final submission.
- Perform other related office/site functions when delegated.
- Assist the Chief Estimator and PM to process submittals and shop drawings for approval.
- Assist the Chief Estimator and PM with project change order proposals.
- Assist in the development of the bid into a project plan.
- Coordinate with the project team on material submittals and approvals.
- Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, Engineering, or related fields with a minimum of 3 years of civil construction and estimating experience.
- Knowledgeable in civil/site construction, foundation, grading and paving, underground utilities/underdrain, storm drain systems, excavation, etc.
- Strong computer skills including Heavy Bid, Word, Excel, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office products.
- Good organizational skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a challenging environment, and willing to work long hours including weekends when needed.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record (no more than 3 moving violations and no DUI in the last 3 years).
- Must pass a pre‑employment physical examination including a drug screen and alcohol test.
- Competitive compensation between $89,000 and $115,000 per year.
- Vacation: minimum of two (2) weeks.
- Sick days: 5 days.
- Holidays: 12 days; 8 standard and 4 floating.

- Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions – 100% of the job is performed outside, often alone and in remote locations.
- Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk long distances on possible sloped or uneven surfaces.
- Push and pull objects up to 25 pounds; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to items on the ground.
- Operate in heavy traffic areas; tolerate exposure to dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship now or in the future (if based in the U.S.).
- Successfully pass a pre‑employment drug screen.
