Project Engineer / Assistant Project Manager
Our client is an established commercial plumbing and mechanical contractor specializing in tenant improvement and renovation projects. They are seeking a Project Engineer / Assistant Project Manager to support ongoing HVAC and plumbing construction projects from design through completion. This position is ideal for someone detail-oriented, organized, and eager to advance into project management while maintaining a strong technical foundation in mechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with project managers, senior engineers, and field teams to support HVAC and plumbing projects from design through completion
- Assist with project planning, scheduling, and budget tracking
- Review and assemble project documentation, including submittals, RFIs, change orders, and purchase orders
- Support mechanical system design with load calculations, equipment selections, and layout coordination
- Coordinate with clients, architects, and consultants to address project requirements and resolve technical challenges
- Conduct site visits, inspections, and field coordination to ensure installation quality and compliance with design documents
- Maintain project records and provide timely updates and reports to management
- Ensure adherence to applicable building codes, energy standards, and company policies
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required
- EIT certification preferred; PE license a plus
- 2–5 years of experience in mechanical project engineering, with focus on HVAC and plumbing systems
- Strong understanding of codes and standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, and IPC
- Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and work independently or as part of a team
- Exposure to both design and construction phases across diverse commercial projects
- Hands-on experience with HVAC and plumbing coordination
