Mackie Myers is partnering with a high growth consumer brand in the food and beverage space to appoint a R&D Manager. About the RoleThe R&D Manager leads the design, development, and commercialization of solid dosage forms (tablets, capsules, and powders). This role is responsible for overseeing formulation strategy, managing development activities, and driving innovation while ensuring alignment with business objectives. The position partners cross-functionally with Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, and Supply Chain teams to execute product initiatives from concept through commercialization. Additionally, this individual will mentor and guide junior formulators and contribute to advancing technical capabilities across the organization.
Responsibilities- Lead development of prototype formulations, scale-up strategies, and commercial batch readiness for solid dosage products
- Oversee planning and execution of stability studies, including sample preparation, storage, and documentation
- Ensure all raw materials and finished products meet defined physical, chemical, and regulatory specifications
- Provide technical leadership for formulation equipment and processes (blending, granulation, compression, encapsulation, coating, milling, etc.)
- Direct raw material evaluation and qualification, ensuring accurate documentation and data integrity
- Manage multiple R&D and product development projects, ensuring timelines, quality, and innovation objectives are achieved
- Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve technical challenges and optimize manufacturing processes
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and support innovation pipelines
- Establish and maintain best practices, SOP adherence, and regulatory compliance (FDA, cGMP)
- Mentor and develop team members, fostering technical growth and strong laboratory practices
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Nutrition, or related scientific field required; advanced degree (MS or PhD) preferred
- 7–10+ years of experience in product development within nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, or relevant CPG industries
- Prior experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity strongly preferred
- Proven track record in formulation, scale-up, and commercialization of complex solid dose products
- Strong technical expertise in formulation science, processing techniques, and analytical evaluation
- Deep understanding of SOPs, FDA requirements, and cGMP regulations
- Experience evaluating raw material properties and finished product performance
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders
- Familiarity with product lifecycle management systems and tools
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills
- Ability to travel up to 25% as needed
