Configuration Specialist
The Configuration Specialist maintains accurate and compliant product data and documentation across the product lifecycle, ensuring that engineering designs, bills of materials, and related records are correctly controlled, traceable, and production-ready. This role focuses heavily on managing engineering data within Product Data Management (PDM) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems, supporting change control, and partnering with cross-functional teams to enable efficient, high-quality manufacturing operations.
Responsibilities- Maintain complete and accurate product records and engineering documentation within Product Data Management (PDM) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
- Administer and control part numbers, CAD models, bills of materials (BOMs), work instructions, standard operating procedures, and engineering change documentation.
- Ensure design changes are accurately reflected across connected business systems to support efficient production and inventory processes.
- Support data consistency and synchronization between engineering and manufacturing environments.
- Apply configuration management best practices to control revisions and changes to product designs and technical documentation.
- Develop, maintain, and improve configuration management procedures, standards, and documentation.
- Ensure proper revision control, traceability, and version management for hardware, software, and related product records.
- Manage product baselines and track configuration items throughout the product lifecycle.
- Support deployment of new configurations by coordinating documentation updates and verification activities.
- Maintain document management systems and part numbering structures to ensure consistency and compliance.
- Coordinate engineering change activities related to drawings, assemblies, and bills of materials.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, quality, and customer requirements in all configuration and document control activities.
- Coordinate the review, approval, and release of engineering changes in accordance with established processes.
- Monitor the status of change requests and communicate updates and outcomes to stakeholders.
- Maintain and enforce established change management procedures to ensure consistent execution.
- Support tracking of serialized products and as-built configurations for traceability and compliance.
- Conduct audits of product data and documentation to verify accuracy, completeness, and adherence to requirements.
- Assist with internal and external quality audits by providing configuration records and supporting documentation.
- Evaluate configuration changes for potential risks and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Recommend and implement enhancements to configuration management practices, tools, and workflows.
- Partner with engineering, operations, manufacturing, and quality teams to resolve documentation or system-related issues.
- Provide guidance and training to internal stakeholders on configuration management tools, standards, and processes.
- Work with internal teams to define, document, and maintain configuration requirements across products and systems.
- Present status updates, metrics, and issue resolution progress to leadership teams as needed.
- Facilitate configuration review and change control meetings to ensure timely and informed decision-making.
- Lead or support initiatives aimed at improving product data management, document control, and engineering change processes.
- Support the development and maintenance of configuration management plans, procedures, and work instructions.
- 3–7 years of experience in configuration management, product data management, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience using Product Data Management (PDM) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) platforms in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of configuration management principles, including revision control, traceability, and baseline management.
- Hands-on experience working with bills of materials (BOMs), engineering drawings, CAD files, work instructions, and change notices.
- Understanding of planning, requirements management, integration, verification, validation, and technical documentation processes.
- Familiarity with CAD systems and BOM management practices.
- Working knowledge of ERP systems and data integration concepts.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills to manage complex product data and change activities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with both technical and non-technical teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for documentation, reporting, and analysis.
- Ability to work occasional overtime as needed to support critical changes or project deadlines.
