General Description of DutiesSupervises the testing of raw material and in-process and finished product to ensure compliance with company, customer, and regulatory agency requirements. Responsible for development of techniques and procedures for inspecting and testing raw materials and company products and assisting with preparation of specifications and other technical documents. Responsible for conducting research on product defects in order to recommend modifications of product formulations and/or quality standards on the basis of this research.
Assists with HACCP tasks. Assists with the investigation and response to customer complaints. Provide Safe Quality Food (SQF) program support in the absence of the Quality Control (QC) Manager or as needed. This position also serves as a back up to the QC Manager. Manages assigned laboratory personnel’s work schedules as well as specific work assignments. This individual must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in ways that foster good relationships with those inside and outside the company, while achieving and enhancing performance standards.
Job Functions
- Train and supervise the work of assigned laboratory personnel, making certain that they receive adequate training to perform their assigned tasks.
- Manage assigned QC personnel’s daily work schedules and task assignments.
- In conjunction with the QC Manager: may hire, manage and conduct performance reviews.
- Ensure that QC tasks such as product testing and facility inspections are completed.
- Review quality control test results and make disposition decisions on raw material and finished products.
- Responsible for the maintenance and calibration of all QC lab instruments.
- Participate in recommending and implementing improvements in the QC Department.
- Maintain accurate records, retain samples and information with respect to the QC function.
- Efficiently and effectively utilize rework products on a consistent basis.
- Assist with internal and complaint investigations.
- Assist with the creation and maintenance of Safety Data Sheets and Product Specifications.
- Monitor and track effective cleaning practices of Sanitation and Production.
- Maintain familiarity with company policies and procedures pertaining to quality control, food security, sanitation, cGMPs, HACCP/food safety, Preventative Controls, SQF, and individual customer’s requirements.
- Must practice regular, dependable, punctual attendance at work.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements- B.A. or B.S. degree in a science discipline.
- Proficiency with general lab analytical equipment and procedures.
- At least five years of experience in a supervisory capacity, with background in food or beverage manufacturing.
- Must be able to move about in a production and lab environment.
- Must have visual acuity to evaluate sample appearance and use lab instruments.
- Must demonstrate taste/aroma sense acuity.
- Good English communication skills, written and verbal.
- Maintain or acquire HACCP certification.
- Experience with SQF and Preventative Controls.
- Must report to any company facility according to company need, sometimes with same-day notice.
