THE OPPORTUNITY:Our client is a publicly traded biotech company in the San Francisco bay area, and they are seeking an Interim Senior Accounting Manager to focus primarily on SG&A-related accounting while also providing cross‑training support on clinical trial accruals and additional cost areas.
The consultant will initially operate in a highly hands‑on capacity and, over time, transition into a review and oversight role, supporting process improvements, mentoring junior team members, and partnering closely with accounting leadership. This engagement is expected to last approximately three to four months and has the potential to convert to permanent for those located in the SF bay area.
RESPONSIBILITIES:- Support day‑to‑day operational accounting activities, with primary ownership over SG&A general ledger areas.
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations as part of the monthly close process.
- Partner with accounting leadership to ensure timely, accurate close execution and reliable financial reporting.
- Develop a strong understanding of cost drivers and apply a disciplined cost mindset across expense areas.
- Provide cross‑training support on additional cost areas to ensure coverage and flexibility within the team.
- Support Procure‑to‑Pay processes and related systems, including participation in testing, design, and business requirements gathering.
- Leverage Net Suite and related tools to support operational accounting, reporting, and process optimization.
- Assist with SOX documentation, control design, testing support, and remediation efforts.
- Support business reporting needs, including recurring management reporting and ad hoc analysis.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and help implement practical, scalable solutions.
- Mentor and support junior accounting staff, providing guidance, review, and development feedback.
- Partner cross‑functionally with finance, operations, and systems teams on accounting‑related initiatives and special projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA preferred but not required.
- Experience at the Manager or Senior Manager level within accounting or operational finance functions.
- Strong hands‑on experience with general ledger accounting and month‑end close processes.
- Prior experience working with Net Suite preferred; experience with Procure‑to‑Pay tools is a strong plus.
- Solid understanding of SOX documentation, internal controls, and audit‑related requirements.
- Strong cost‑focused mindset with the ability to analyze and manage SG&A expenses effectively.
- Experience operating in fast‑paced, regulated, or publicly operating environments preferred.
- Ability to start in a hands‑on execution role and evolve into a reviewer and mentor over time.
- Self‑starter with strong follow‑through, initiative, and ownership mentality.
- Comfortable stepping into an interim consulting role with minimal ramp time.
