: $110,000-$115,000 (commensurate with experience)

Overview

The Senior Accountant plays an important and visible role within the Accounting and Reporting unit, reporting to the Associate Director of Financial Accounting and Reporting. Responsibilities include reviewing, analyzing and reconciling financial transactions in the general ledger; maintaining the chart of accounts; preparing and analyzing financial statements and related footnotes; auditing, reconciling and recording daily parking revenue and monthly parking contracts;

creating and processing monthly journal entries; managing general ledger maintenance, user access, account reconciliations; handling fixed‑asset accounting; coordinating the college foundation’s 990 tax return, and accounting for sales, use and other business taxes.

Ideal Candidate

  • Strong working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and government standards (GASB).
  • Experience and knowledge of financial statement preparation and analysis; ability to translate financial performance to faculty, employees and college leadership.
  • Experience accounting for fixed assets and solid understanding of asset life cycles, depreciation, salvage value, acquisition and disposal.
  • Strong time‑management skills to multitask in a fast‑paced environment and effective communication to set priorities.
  • Collaborative ability to work with departments and programs to process and interpret financial transactions.
Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze financial transactions for accuracy.
  • Perform general‑ledger account reconciliations to sub‑ledgers, analyze data, make recommendations, and ensure substantiation of reconciling items.
  • Balance various general‑ledger account components.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts, including new account creation, signature authorization, and access security.
  • Accurately process journal entries for bank fees, gift fees, new endowments, grant benefit truest, indirect cost allocation, purchasing re‑charges, printing fee allocations, and other assignments.
  • Quarterly analyze capital asset transactions, prepare related accounting entries, and reconcile capital assets sub‑ledgers to the general ledger.
  • Audit the parking garage, including cash deposits, revenue audit, and bank statement reconciliation.
  • Record monthly rent for the Housing Authority, confirm lease existence, audit signed leases, and conduct physical inspections as needed.
  • Assist with grant accounting: prepare budget monitor schedules, invoice grants, and book indirect cost allocations.
  • Prepare financial statements and footnotes in accordance with GAAP, GASB and audit standards; perform detailed analysis of accounts and transactions.
  • Assist audit team with schedules, reports and documentation; analyze ledger balances and assemble transaction files for outside auditors.
  • Maintain and update existing processes and procedures.
  • Review internal processes, workflows and procedures for efficiency and recommend improvements; ensure strong internal controls.
  • Coordinate the annual production of the college foundation’s 990 tax return.
  • Assist with IRS, Franchise Tax Board and other audits as needed.
  • Formulate reports using computerized applications.
  • Conduct data analysis on large datasets using Excel pivot tables and lookup functions.
  • Perform various ad‑hoc analysis projects as needed.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a similar environment, maintaining general ledger, preparing financial statements, variance analysis and fixed‑asset accounting.
  • Hands‑on experience with a computerized financial system.
  • CPA license required.
