A mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant / Assistant Controller to join its Finance team. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a stable, collaborative organization while helping improve financial processes, strengthen internal controls, and support long-term organizational success.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role oversees one accounting team member and serves as a key contributor to financial reporting, month-end close, audit preparation, budgeting support, and process improvement initiatives.

- Maintain the general ledger in accordance with GAAP.
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and monthly financial reports.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes.
- Reconcile bank accounts, investments, and balance sheet accounts.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Prepare supporting schedules for audits and financial reporting.
- Monitor cash balances and banking activity.
- Process electronic payments and transfers.
- Assist with cash flow monitoring and treasury functions.
- Maintain accurate records of cash-related transactions.
- Review and process vendor payments.
- Maintain accounts receivable records and monitor collections.
- Ensure proper coding and documentation of financial transactions.
- Prepare invoices and billing documentation as needed.
- Identify opportunities to automate and streamline accounting processes.
- Improve workflows, reporting procedures, and internal controls.
- Support finance system enhancements and modernization initiatives.
- Document accounting policies and procedures.
- Provide guidance and support to accounting staff.
- Assist with workflow management and departmental priorities.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to support financial operations.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Nonprofit accounting experience.
- Experience with Financial Edge.
- Supervisory experience.
- Process improvement or systems implementation experience.
- CPA designation or CPA-track candidate.
