Interim Assistant Controller, Property Accounting
Our client, a real estate investment and property management firm, is seeking an Interim Assistant Controller to support its property accounting organization during a transitional period.
This position is hybrid with in-office requirements 3 days/week. Remote candidates will be considered; however, PST working hours are required. This role has a duration of 4 months with the opportunity to extend.
Responsibilities- Oversee accounting activities for a portfolio of real estate assets and related entities.
- Review month-end and year-end close deliverables, including reconciliations, supporting schedules, and financial reporting packages.
- Ensure accounting transactions are recorded in accordance with applicable accounting standards and company policies.
- Support accounting for acquisitions, dispositions, and other complex real estate transactions.
- Coordinate audits, tax reporting requirements, lender reporting, and compliance-related activities.
- Manage relationships with third-party accounting providers and review external deliverables for accuracy and completeness.
- Assist with budgeting, variance analysis, cash management reporting, and financial performance monitoring.
- Identify process improvements, strengthen internal controls, and mentor accounting team members as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- 7+ years of accounting experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
- Strong property accounting experience within commercial real estate, real estate investment management, or a related industry.
- Experience reviewing complex accounting transactions, financial reporting, audits, and compliance requirements.
- CPA preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with accounting and ERP systems.
- Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and relationship-management skills.
