Our client, a hedge fund that is scaling their fund operations, is seeking a Hedge Fund Controller to oversee the accounting, financial reporting, and operational finance functions for a portfolio of hedge funds and related investment entities. This is a highly visible role that will partner closely with the investment team, senior management, administrators, auditors, tax advisors, and other internal stakeholders.
Responsibilities- Oversee the full accounting and financial reporting process for hedge funds and related entities.
- Review and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual NAV calculations, including review of capital activity, P&L, expenses, accruals, and investment activity.
- Manage relationships with third-party fund administrators and ensure accurate and timely delivery of fund accounting and reporting.
- Review financial statements, investor reporting, capital statements, and other fund-level reporting.
- Oversee the year-end audit process, including coordination with external auditors and resolution of audit issues.
- Partner with tax advisors on fund tax reporting, K-1s, tax estimates, and related matters.
- Review management fees, incentive allocations, performance fees, and other fund expenses.
- Monitor cash activity, capital calls, distributions, subscriptions, redemptions, and investor allocations.
- Work closely with the investment team to understand portfolio activity and ensure appropriate accounting treatment.
- Review and improve fund accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Support the onboarding of new funds, investment vehicles, and strategies.
- Assist with regulatory, compliance, and management reporting as needed.
- Identify opportunities to automate and improve accounting and reporting processes.
- Manage and mentor junior accounting professionals, where applicable.
- 8–12+ years of accounting experience, with significant experience in hedge funds,
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA strongly preferred. MBA/CFA nice to have
- Strong understanding of hedge fund accounting, NAV calculations, partnership accounting, and investment accounting.
- Experience reviewing financial statements and working directly with external auditors and fund administrators.
- Knowledge of management and performance fee calculations, investor allocations, and capital activity.
