Position: Poll Worker Program Coordinator San Francisco Department of Elections 1404 Clerk

Overview

In preparation for the June 2, 2026, Statewide Direct Primary Election, the Department is seeking applications for seasonal positions of Poll Worker Program Coordinator. Beginning a few months before each election, Poll Worker Program Coordinators work to recruit, train, assign, and support paid volunteers who will serve as poll workers on Election Day. Coordinators help ensure 501 polling places are staffed, poll workers are trained and supported, and Election Day operations run smoothly and effectively.

In addition to the range of duties assigned to the 1404 job code, the following essential duties and responsibilities apply:

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the recruitment, onboarding, training, assignment, and support of poll workers in preparation for Election Day.
  • Maintain regular communication with poll workers via mail, email and phone.
  • Utilize the Department’s Election Information Management System (EIMS) to process poll worker applications, enroll poll workers in training classes, update records, and track poll worker progress.
  • Maintain Excel spreadsheets and tracking tools to organize poll worker assignments, ensuring all Election Day sites are fully staffed.
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail including opening, sorting, and preparing election-related correspondence.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills when speaking with volunteers or other members of the public.
  • Drive to and assist with offsite outreach and poll worker recruitment events.
  • Conduct and assist with poll worker trainings.
  • Assist in the Election Center providing remote support to poll workers on Election Day.
  • Assist with post-election tasks as needed.
  • Position Schedule, Requirements, and Work Location

    These are seasonal positions with a tentative start date between March 23, 2026 and April 20, 2026. The tentative end date for these positions is approximately between June 3, 2026 and the second week of June 2026. Actual start and end dates will depend upon the Department’s operational needs.

    Work will primarily be on site at the Department of Elections Office at City Hall, San Francisco, CA. Travel within the city and field work will be required as needed. Work hours will vary in accordance with the demands of the election cycle and will range between 20 and 40 hours per week. Although most work is expected to be completed during normal workday hours, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday through Friday, employees must be available to work overtime both during the week and on weekends as necessary.

    Overtime hours will be paid at 1.5 the hourly rate.

    This is a temporary exempt as-needed position. Temporary exempt as-needed employees who have worked more than 1040 hours in any consecutive 12-month period, and whose normal work week at the time of inclusion in the system is not less than 20 hours are eligible for health coverage and retirement benefits.     Position Salary: $31.5375 to $38.3375 hourly

    $65,598 to $79,742 annually

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    One (1) year of clerical experience including preparing and maintaining a variety of records and/or documents, filing, use of office equipment, public contact and processing of incoming and outgoing mail.

    Substitution:
    Completion of an approved City and County of San Francisco Clerical Administrative Training program, or completion of a clerical training program (240 hours), or 15 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework from an accredited college or university may substitute for up to 6 months of required experience.
