Looking for an office support position in state government working with nice people? Come work for the State of California in a fun legal office doing important work for the people of California.

Under general direction of the Legal Support Supervisor, the Office Technician (Typing) (OT [T]) performs a variety of general office, clerical, administrative and organizational tasks for the support of attorneys and special investigators in the Department of Industrial Relations Office of the Director Legal Unit (OD Legal). OD Legal attorneys provide a variety of legal services to the Department of Industrial Relations, including in administrative and civil litigation.

The Legal Unit also represents the Director of the Department of Industrial Relations in workers' compensations cases involving the Uninsured Employers Benefits Trust Fund (UEBTF), Subsequent Injuries Benefits Trust Fund (SIBTF), and Death Without Dependents Unit (DWD).

Working Conditions

This position is located at: 1515 Clay St, Suite 701, Oakland, CA 94612. It is a full‑time, permanent position located in the Department of Industrial Relations, Office of the Director, Legal Unit (known as “OD Legal”). The Office Technician works in an office environment in a cubicle at the front of the office suite. The position requires the ability to use a computer, telephone, and other office equipment such as copiers and scanners.

The role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time and to work at a computer for extended periods, as well as to move and transport office items safely. Employees are expected to work all hours as necessary to accomplish their assignments during usual business hours Monday through Friday.

Special Requirements
  • The position requires the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications. A valid typing certificate confirming a minimum of 40 words per minute must be provided within the last four (4) years, certified from a five (5) minute typing test. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests is available on the Cal Careers website.
