Under general supervision, the 1404 Clerk performs general clerical work. This is the journey-level position in the Clerk series.
Examples of Important and Essential DutiesApplicants must meet the minimum qualifications requirement by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.
Current Category 16, 17, or 18 Exempt Employee in Class 1404 who has worked at least 2,080 hours in class 1404; AND
One (1) year of clerical experience including preparing and maintaining a variety of records and/or documents, filing, use of office equipment, public contact and processing of incoming and outgoing mail.
Substitution- Completion of a clerical training program (240 hours); OR
- 15 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework from an accredited college or university; OR
- Completion of an approved City and County of San Francisco Clerical Administrative training program (as designated on the job announcement).
Employee must have served continuously (with no break in service) in Class 1404 in Category 16, 17, or 18 exempt status the equivalent of at least one (1) year (2,080 hours).

Qualified applicants will be ranked on the eligible list based on the length of their exempt City service (in Category 16, 17, and/or 18) in the 1404 Clerk class, along with any additional qualifying points (e.g., promotive status), as outlined in Civil Service Commission (CSC) rules. All work history will be verified using official City records, which will serve as the final authority in determining qualifying service.
