Position Summary

The Business Banking Relationship Manager (BBRM) is responsible for managing, deepening, and growing an assigned portfolio of business members while actively originating new business relationships across targeted segments. This role balances portfolio management, consultative sales, and new client acquisition, with clear accountability for deposit growth, loan growth, relationship profitability, and member experience.

Key Objectives & Accountabilities
  • Manage & Grow an Existing Book of Business
    • Own and proactively manage an assigned portfolio of business members.
    • Deepen relationships through regular engagement, needs-based reviews, and solution-driven conversations.
    • Retain and grow deposits, loans, and fee-based services within the existing portfolio.
    • Identify cross-sell and up-sell opportunities aligned with member needs and lifecycle events.
    • Monitor portfolio performance, risk indicators, and member satisfaction.
  • New Business Development & Segment Expansion
    • Actively source and onboard new business members across defined growth segments (e.g., professional services, insurance agencies, small businesses, CRE-related entities, etc.).
    • Build pipelines through outbound prospecting, referrals, networking, and internal partnerships.
    • Partner with branch teams, servicing and marketing to convert leads into funded relationships.
    • Expand the credit union’s presence beyond legacy segments while maintaining strong sponsor-based relationships where applicable.
  • Deliver Consultative Business Banking Solutions
    • Provide holistic banking solutions including:
      • Business checking and savings
      • Treasury and cash management services (ACH, wires, RDC, Positive Pay, etc.) – coming in 2026
      • Business loans and lines of credit (secured and unsecured)
      • Commercial real estate lending (where applicable)
    • Conduct discovery to understand cash flow, capital needs, and operational complexity.
    • Coordinate with underwriting, treasury, and operations teams to deliver seamless execution.
  • Meet Performance Targets & KPIs
    • Achieve individual goals tied to:
      • Deposit growth and retention
      • Loan production and utilization
      • New relationship acquisition
      • Relationship profitability and engagement
    • Maintain accurate pipeline management and forecasting.
    • Participate in incentive programs aligned with organizational growth priorities.
  • Risk, Compliance & Credit Discipline
    • Ensure all relationships meet credit union risk, regulatory, and compliance standards.
    • Partner with underwriting and credit teams to structure sound, sustainable deals.
    • Identify early warning signs and proactively manage credit or relationship risk.
    • Maintain strong documentation, data integrity, and portfolio oversight.
Required
  • HS Diploma, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in business banking, commercial banking, or relationship management
  • Proven success managing an existing book of business while generating new relationships
