Position: Head of Business Operations San Francisco, United States

Back Ops is at the forefront of supply chain intelligence, leveraging advanced AI to optimize logistics processes. Our solutions empower logistics teams to maximize efficiency and focus on mission-critical initiatives. We are dedicated to transforming the supply chain industry through innovative technology and data-driven insights.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Head of Business Operations to help scale Back Ops from a fast-growing startup into a category-defining company. This role sits at the center of the business — partnering closely with leadership across product, engineering, sales, and customer success to drive clarity, execution, and operational excellence.

You’ll own the systems, processes, and metrics that keep the company running smoothly. From strategic planning and goal-setting to day-to-day operational problem-solving, you’ll ensure teams are aligned, moving fast, and focused on the highest-impact work. This is a hands‑on role for someone who thrives in ambiguity and loves turning chaos into structure.

What You’ll Own Finance & Business Operations
  • Own financial planning and analysis (FP&A): budgeting, forecasting, runway management, and scenario modeling
  • Build and maintain operating models tied to revenue, usage-based pricing, margins, and hiring plans
  • Partner with the CEO on board materials, investor updates, and fundraising diligence
  • Oversee accounting, billing, collections, revenue recognition, and vendor spend (with external firms where appropriate)
  • Design and track unit economics, gross margin, CAC/LTV, and operational efficiency metrics
  • Support pricing strategy, deal structure, and contract economics alongside Sales and Legal
Company Operations
  • Own day-to-day operational execution across teams — turning strategy into measurable outcomes
  • Establish and improve core operating rhythms (weekly exec reviews, KPI tracking, planning cycles)
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to ensure delivery timelines, resourcing, and customer commitments are aligned
  • Build scalable internal processes as the company grows from early scale to multi-team execution
  • Identify operational bottlenecks early and proactively solve them
Leadership & Scale
  • Act as a thought partner to the CEO on company priorities, tradeoffs, and sequencing
  • Help hire and scale ops, finance, and support functions over time
  • Create clarity in moments of ambiguity and pressure — especially as the company grows quickly
  • Own company-wide operational strategy, ensuring alignment across teams and initiatives.
  • Drive planning rhythms including OKRs, quarterly planning, and leadership reviews.
  • Build and optimize core business processes across sales, customer success, product, and finance.
  • Partner with the CEO and leadership team on strategic initiatives, special projects, and execution.
  • Define and track key business metrics, turning data into clear insights and decisions.
  • Identify operational bottlenecks and implement scalable solutions as the company grows.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives from concept to execution, keeping teams accountable and unblocked.
  • Help shape hiring plans, resource allocation, and organizational structure.
  • Act as a force multiplier for leadership — making the company run faster, smarter, and more efficiently.
What We’re Looking For
  • 7+ years of experience in business operations, strategy, consulting, or a similar role at a high-growth company.
  • Proven ability to operate at both strategic and tactical levels.
  • Strong analytical skills with comfort working from data to decisions.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with product, engineering, sales, and finance teams.
  • Clear communicator who can align diverse stakeholders around shared goals.
  • Startup DNA: resourceful, adaptable, and comfortable building processes from scratch.
  • A strong sense of ownership — you see problems and take responsibility for fixing them.
Bonus Points
  • Experience in logistics, supply chain, or operations-heavy industries.
  • Background in SaaS or AI-driven products.
  • Experience scaling teams and operations from early-stage to growth-stage.
  • MBA or prior experience in management consulting or investment banking.
  • We take care of our team so you can do your best work.
  • Competitive salary and performance-based incentives
  • 401(k) plan
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage
  • Daily meals and snacks provided in-office
  • FTO
  • Regular team bonding events, offsites, and learning opportunities
