Job Summary:

Open Gov is on a mission to power more effective and accountable government. The Corporate Development Associate will play a key role in advancing that mission by supporting Open Gov’s strategic growth through market analysis, financial modeling, and end-to-end M&A evaluation and execution. Based in our San Francisco office, this role will work closely with leaders across Strategic Finance, Product, Engineering, and Go-To-Market to evaluate expansion opportunities and help shape high-impact decisions.

This role is designed for a professional who wants to build exceptional corporate development fundamentals while working directly on acquisitions, strategic investments, and growth decisions that shape how governments operate nationwide. You will work alongside our most senior leaders, influence real capital allocation decisions, and develop a foundation that prepares you for strategy, corporate development, or operating roles.

High performers in this role have a clear path to expanded ownership within Corporate Development or broader Strategic Finance.

Responsibilities:
  • Build and own financial and valuation models for potential transactions, including detailed P&L and cash-flow forecasts, sales and pipeline analyses, and synergy and scenario modeling.

  • Analyze diligence data across financial, operational, and customer metrics – often with incomplete or imperfect information – to assess business quality, identify risks, and inform investment decisions.

  • Own and drive defined deal work streams, including initial screening, diligence planning, cross-functional coordination, and process management, with increasing independence over time. Ensure timelines, deliverables, and communications stay on track from initial evaluation through integration planning.

  • Synthesize cross-functional findings (such as Product, Engineering, GTM, Finance, Legal, HR), surfacing insights, risks, and open questions. Prepare clear summaries and recommendations for senior leadership.

Proactive Strategymaking:
  • Help develop and, over time, take ownership of investment theses for potential areas of expansion by framing key questions, evaluating build/partner/buy tradeoffs, and pressure-testing assumptions with senior stakeholders. Build market maps, company profiles, and strategic briefs that inform Open Gov’s long-term growth decisions.

  • Shape and maintain Open Gov’s M&A pipeline by monitoring market developments, gathering intelligence from internal stakeholders and customers, and identifying high-potential targets aligned with long-term corporate strategy.

Strategic Finance & Executive Communication:
  • Contribute to select Strategic Finance initiatives such as long-range planning, ROI-driven investment prioritization, and data-driven analyses that support key business and product decisions

  • Develop clear, concise presentations and analyses for senior leadership, advising stakeholders on key tradeoffs, risks, and implications to support decision-making. Translate complex financial and strategic concepts into actionable insights and maintain organized documentation across active and historical initiatives.

  • Act as a thought partner to Strategic Finance team members and cross-functional partners by sharing best practices in diligence, modelling, and market research.
