Morpheus are partnered with a global technology and consulting business that is building a frontier AI business from the ground up. They're looking for a senior operator to own the platform and operational stack that will power it. This is a founding role within a new business line, a rare opportunity to shape the operating model from day one rather than step into an existing structure.
The Director will report directly to the GM of the Frontier Business and work in close, hands-on partnership to define how the business runs operationally. This is a high-autonomy role for someone who can build and lead with conviction rather than wait for direction, working collaboratively across the broader delivery organisation to ensure the operating model reflects what the business actually needs to succeed.
Thisrole carries three primary mandates:
- Buy, build, and integrate the frontier platform, including the tasking engine, Data Ops, and training and TEV (test, evaluation, and validation) infrastructure
- Take a smart census of existing capabilities, platforms, processes, teams, and infrastructure, and assemble what fits into the new frontier operating model
- Design and own the operational processes that will support the training and extended TEV business going forward
- Defining and executing the build-vs-buy strategy for the frontier platform stack, moving quickly and decisively
- Conducting a thorough assessment of existing labelling, content syndication, indexing, and related capabilities, determining what fits the new model versus what should be built or sourced fresh
- Designing and standing up operational processes for frontier tasking, training, and evaluation-as-a-service
- Thinking beyond coding-centric tasking to multiple modalities and evaluation services as a broader offering
- Championing a forward-looking operating model, partnering with the existing global delivery organisation
- Partnering closely with the GM, Frontier Business on sourcing, planning, and prioritisation
- Working across engineering, delivery, and commercial functions to surface, package, and position existing capabilities relevant to the frontier build
- Operating independently day to day, exercising sound judgement and escalating only where genuinely needed
- Direct experience from a frontier AI business (e.g. Scale AI, Surge AI, or similar), with first-hand knowledge of the operational model
- A clear, well-formed point of view on what to build versus buy, and the ability to move fast on that judgement
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently and lead with sound judgement
- Strong executive presence, with the confidence to advocate for the right operating model and the collaborative skill to bring others along
- A genuine understanding that frontier tasking is fundamentally different from traditional engineering or data labelling work
- A multimodal mindset, thinking beyond coding tasking to other modalities and evaluation services
- A builder's orientation, motivated to create something new rather than replicate an existing delivery model
- The ability to engage both deeply technical teams and senior stakeholders with equal credibility
- Experience as an internal buyer of data, annotation, or training services at a frontier lab (Meta, Deep Mind, Google, OpenAI, or similar)
- Familiarity with sovereign AI programs or enterprise agentic AI integration
- An established network within frontier AI labs, hyperscalers, or AI-native services businesses
- Willingness to travel as needed to support a distributed team and key stakeholders
This is a founding, high-autonomy role building a new business line from the ground up, backed by significant existing scale and client relationships, offering direct partnership with senior leadership and real authority over the operating model.
