Transportation Security Specialist- Explosives Detection Canine Handler

TSA -  - Responsibilities:
Conduct Passenger Screening Canine (PSC) and other Explosives Detection Canine (EDC) threat assessment/mitigation activities to ensure the safety of the traveling public and mitigate potential threats;
Develop and apply knowledge from formal canine handler training to evaluate and reward canine behavior, guide canines during threat mitigation activities, and ensure effective utilization of canines;
Use canines to assess passengers in screening queues for potential explosives threats;
Interact with traveling public to respond to inquiries, establish a calm environment, and maximize the canine's search capabilities;
Coordinate and collaborate with other EDC program members in scheduling work and training activities;
Travel to explosives storage magazine to obtain identified explosives for canine training and ensure variation of aids to maintain canine proficiency;
Load explosives in designated containers and transport to airports or training locations;
Apply risk-based security techniques and intelligence information to determine where to use canines for random sweeps, support ATLAS exercises, and deter threats;
Evaluate potential threats based on canine response to determine actions (e.g., have canine respond or call authorities);
Perform administrative tasks including logging work activities, updating canine training/usage data in tracking systems, entering vehicle usage data, and maintaining time/attendance records;
Operate technology such as iPhone, iPad, laptops, and radios for core duties;
Provide daily care of the canine including health maintenance, feeding/watering, exercising, and grooming, and maintain safe/clean TSA equipment and canine housing
