About the Role

JHCE is seeking to hire a full-time construction inspector to perform quality assurance inspections on public works maritime, port, marine, and coastal projects, as well as other types of water infrastructure and facilities.

This list presents anticipated and potential scope.

  • Harbor construction such as piers, docks, piles, and fuel docks for commercial and recreational uses.
  • Coastal restoration such as beach replenishment, salt marsh
  • In-water construction such as outfalls, bulkheads, slide gates, seawalls, and submerged pipelines.
  • Shoreline protection systems including breakwaters, groynes, reefs.
  • Hydraulic and mechanical dredging
  • Remediation and disposal of hazardous waste and sediments
  • Improvements to parks such as hardscaping, landscaping, lighting, restrooms and stormwater green infrastructure.
About You

We are looking for someone who is excited to help us to grow our construction management practice in the San Francisco Bay Area, with a focus on maritime, port, marine, and coastal projects.

  • You have experience and interest in the types of projects listed above.
  • You are a professional with technical expertise and strong communication skills which will allow you to effectively and creditably communicate complex technical issues with our clients.
  • You have experience with construction oversight of maritime, port, marine, and coastal projects.
  • You have field construction inspection and construction management experience.
  • You enjoy direct client contact and professional networking.
  • You have an entrepreneurial spirit and are self-motivated and passionate about your work.
  • You excel in an unconventional work environment. You enjoy working in varied locations, including job sites, at home, and in the office.
  • You must have the ability to work in a fast-paced, variable schedule environment which may include flexible hours, including early mornings or late nights.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A minimum of five (4) years of verifiable experience in field construction management/inspection.
  • Two (2) of the four (4) years’ experience required may be substituted for experience at the Superintendent/General Foreman level, supervising construction crews of more than six (6) staff.
  • Current OSHA 30-HR for Construction Certification, or must be obtained prior to start of work.
  • Ability to work minimum 8-hour shifts. May at times be assigned morning and/or late-night shifts, and weekends;
    Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license in the State of California and drive to and between job sites as needed.
  • Ability to work in disagreeable environments which may require physical effort, such as working in inclement weather conditions, walking on uneven surfaces, and standing for long periods of time.
Desirable Qualifications (not required)
  • Experience with marine construction (i.e., pile driving, float installation, and general over-water construction knowledge)
  • Experience with water infrastructure construction (pipelines, pump stations, water treatment, etc.)
  • Relevant International Code Council Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management
  • EIT or Professional Engineer registration A current Certificate of OSHA 10-Hour Construction Training is desirable but not required and may be obtained after hire.
