Project Manager – Healthcare Construction

A specialized general contractor focused on healthcare and medical construction in the San Francisco Bay Area. Position Summary

The Project Manager is responsible for managing healthcare construction projects from preconstruction through close‑out
, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with healthcare regulations and client expectations.

Ideal candidates bring experience in hospital or medical construction
, understand the sensitivities of working in occupied environments, and are comfortable coordinating with owners, hospital staff, inspectors, subcontractors, and internal field teams.

The company is also open to hiring a strong Assistant Project Manager who is ready to step into a PM role

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage contractual compliance with the Owner to ensure successful project delivery; develop and maintain contract summaries and checklists
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute projects across all phases: preconstruction, budgeting, construction, and close‑out
  • Identify, assess, and manage project risks; develop and communicate mitigation strategies
  • Develop, maintain, and update detailed project schedules, including milestones and three‑week look‑ahead schedules
  • Ensure prompt buyout of all subcontractor and vendor scopes
  • Lead Owner‑Architect‑Contractor (OAC) meetings and distribute meeting minutes in a timely manner
  • Prepare and distribute monthly Project Status Reports
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date RFI, submittal, and change order logs; resolve outstanding items proactively
  • Monitor project budgets and costs to maintain profitability
  • Review and approve owner billings prior to submission; ensure timely invoicing and follow‑up for payment
  • Manage subcontractor billings, change orders, and close‑out documentation to ensure compliance and timeliness
  • Review subcontractor change proposals for accuracy, scope alignment, and legitimacy
  • Draft and manage purchase orders, professional service agreements, and subcontracts. Understand contract laws.
  • Work closely with on‑site Superintendents to coordinate labor, materials, and sequencing to maintain workflow and eliminate constraints
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, safety, scheduling, and quality
  • Ensure all safety measures are implemented, documented, and enforced throughout the project lifecycle
  • Coordinate with estimating during preconstruction to understand scopes, pricing assumptions, and risk factors
  • Assist with large project estimates and independently develop estimates for smaller projects as needed
  • Participate in ongoing business development by maintaining strong client relationships that lead to repeat work
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a combination of construction experience and college education
  • 5–7+ years of construction experience
    , preferably in healthcare, hospital, or medical construction
  • Experience managing projects in occupied healthcare environments
    , with sensitivity to patient care and hospital operations
  • Strong understanding of healthcare construction compliance requirements;
    OSHPD experience preferred
