Our client is a leading heavy civil contractor delivering major transportation infrastructure projects throughout Northern California. With a strong backlog of work and continued growth, they are looking to add a Project Engineer to their team to support the successful delivery of complex highway, bridge, and transportation projects.

About the RoleAs a Project Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of heavy civil construction projects from preconstruction through completion. You will work closely with project teams, owners, subcontractors, and field personnel to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities- Support Project Managers with the day-to-day management of heavy civil construction projects.
- Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation.
- Assist with project scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, and public agencies.
- Track procurement and delivery of materials and equipment.
- Attend project meetings and maintain accurate project records.
- Assist with quantity tracking, progress reporting, and monthly cost reporting.
- Support field operations by coordinating with Superintendents to resolve construction issues.
- Ensure projects comply with contract requirements, safety standards, and quality expectations.
- 1–5+ years of experience as a Project Engineer within heavy civil construction.
- Experience supporting one or more of the following project types:
- Highways
- Bridges
- Roadway improvements
- Transportation infrastructure
- Earthwork and grading
- Drainage systems
- Public works projects
- Experience working on Caltrans, county, city, or other public agency projects is highly desirable.
- Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, HCSS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or similar construction software is preferred.
