Site Superintendent – Water/Wastewater Construction

Locations:
San Francisco Bay Area or Sacramento, California Salary: $140,000 - $220,000 Our client is an established construction contractor specializing in general contracting and self-performed subcontracting for complex water, wastewater and infrastructure projects. The company has a strong presence throughout California and a travelling federal team delivering projects across the United States. They are seeking experienced Site Superintendents to lead field operations on current and upcoming projects across the Bay Area and Sacramento regions.

Must

Haves
  • Superintendent experience on water and wastewater construction projects.
  • Experience leading treatment plant, pump station, process piping or related municipal infrastructure work.
  • Strong knowledge of civil, structural, concrete, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation scopes.
  • Proven ability to manage self-performed crews, subcontractors, schedules, site logistics, safety and quality.
  • Experience independently leading projects from mobilization through commissioning and closeout.
  • Strong drawing-reading, planning, sequencing and field problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work on project sites across the Bay Area or Sacramento region.
Nice to Haves
  • Experience on large or technically complex treatment plant projects.
  • Background with a general contractor or specialty contractor that self-performs construction.
  • Experience working in active treatment facilities involving shutdowns, tie-ins or bypass systems.
  • Municipal, state or federal project experience.
  • Experience with design-build, progressive design-build or CMAR delivery.
  • Trade certification, Construction Management degree or related education.
  • OSHA 30, First Aid, confined-space or other relevant safety certifications.
Responsibilities
  • Lead daily field operations on water and wastewater construction projects across Northern California.
  • Plan and sequence self-performed work, subcontractors, equipment, materials and site logistics.
  • Develop and maintain look-ahead schedules and daily work plans aligned with the master project schedule.
  • Direct foremen, field crews and subcontractors while maintaining clear expectations and accountability.
  • Coordinate civil, structural, concrete, process mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation activities.
  • Ensure work is completed safely and in accordance with drawings, specifications, quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct safety meetings, site inspections and hazard assessments while reinforcing a strong safety culture.
  • Review drawings, specifications, submittals and RFIs to identify constructability issues and field conflicts.
  • Coordinate closely with the Project Manager on scheduling, procurement, changes, costs and emerging project risks.
  • Manage shutdowns, tie-ins, bypass systems, inspections and testing within active treatment facilities.
  • Monitor manpower, productivity, equipment usage, deliveries and material availability.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, progress records, manpower documentation and field correspondence.
  • Build productive relationships with owners, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, suppliers and facility operators.
  • Identify and resolve field issues before they affect safety, quality, schedule or plant operations.
  • Enforce quality-control procedures and ensure deficiencies are corrected promptly.
  • Support commissioning, startup, operator training, punch-list completion and final project turnover.
  • Mentor assistant superintendents, foremen and field staff while strengthening field leadership and accountability.
