Responsibilities Production ImplementationUnder the supervision of the Stage Supervisors or their designate, the incumbent will be responsible for one or more of the following tasks:
- Assist with the implementation of all technical‑related elements required by events during pre‑hangs, load‑ins, rehearsals, shows, load‑outs, and changeovers; perform general stage duties as needed.
- Assist full crew with off‑stage tasks, including loading and unloading trucks, set‑up or strike of staging, audio, video, lighting, and/or scenic elements in non‑performance spaces (e.g., mezzanine events, off‑site rehearsal spaces, lobby displays, donor residences).
- Gather all necessary equipment and safely transport it from storage to the stage for events; return all gear to storage when no longer needed; maintain storage areas in a clean and organized manner.
- Practice and enforce safe working habits; promptly report unsafe situations and conditions to supervisors; proactively work to prevent accidents and manage risk levels on stage and in the work area.
- Consistently execute cues correctly per production or in‑house instruction.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Senior Scene Technicians have a demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas and can work independently in that area with general supervision from the Stage Supervisors, Event Managers, Touring Staff, or their designees. They also possess familiarity with technical areas outside of their specialization.
Areas of Specialization Stage Carpentry, Properties, and RiggingSafely implement production carpentry and property elements; operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair theatrical carpentry system components, including counterweight rigging systems, spot or point rigging systems, block and tackles, and electric chain hoists. Lead other Scene Technicians in activities such as constructing scenery, hanging soft goods, assembling props, stage setup, and general maintenance of equipment.
LightingHang, circuit, focus, and color lighting plots; operate and maintain lighting system components such as follow‑spots, conventional fixtures, LED fixtures, automated fixtures, dimmers, power distribution, transformers, control systems, and lighting network equipment. Program, record, and operate cues on industry‑standard computerized lighting control consoles; lead other Scene Technicians in electrics show‑running activities.
SoundInstall, operate, and maintain sound systems and their components; use software for multi‑channel audio playback, loudspeaker management, digital mixing consoles, wireless microphone and monitoring systems. Troubleshoot and repair sound systems and components, including cabling, and mix live performances to the satisfaction of event sponsors or the A/V Department Head.
AudiovisualInstall and operate various multimedia visual systems; maintain and troubleshoot components such as computers, projectors, video cameras, LED screens, matrices, extenders, and specialty cabling. Operate audiovisual equipment to the satisfaction of Stage Supervisors, Event Managers, or their designees.
