LT Editor, Politics – Statewide Coordination

• Assign, edit, report, and coordinate statewide and multiplatform coverage
• Produce journalism across audio, text, social, broadcast, and other media
• Edit and produce on-air news elements for broadcast
• Edit text stories and produce online news content
• Contribute to news planning and monitor daily local and national news
• Coordinate statewide coverage with political editors and newsroom leaders
• Assess coverage needs and coordinate joint projects among stations
• Maintain a database of assignments and election planning
• Oversee California Newsroom employees assigned to elections coverage
• Work with news directors, reporters, and editors across multiple outlets on coverage of elections and statewide issues
• Coordinate coverage for a national audience as needed by NPR
• Occasionally fill in for colleagues and represent KQED at events

• At least five years of experience in a similar role in a newsroom or news environment
• Interest and knowledge in California political news
• Excellent communication and coordination skills
• Excellent news judgment
• Thorough command of journalistic principles, ethics, and standards
• Ability to meet deadlines and goals while working under pressure
• Proven collaboration skills across departments and partner organizations
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to stay focused, organized, communicative, and proactive across multiple journalists, staffers, and editors
• Ability to prioritize tasks across multiple projects
• Non-English language skills are desired, including fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, or other widely spoken languages in California
• Previous work as a political editor or reporter, particularly in California, is desired
• Proven capacity to identify high-relevance story opportunities is desired
• Must reside in California
