Job Description
The Wall Street Journal is seeking a nimble, hungry reporter to join our ambitious tech team covering the high-stakes race to build superintelligence. We are looking for candidates with sourcing within the most influential AI labs including Anthropic, OpenAI, Google’s Deep Mind, xAI and beyond to help us break exclusive, agenda-setting news and revelatory enterprise projects.

This job requires speed, creativity and collaboration. You and your colleagues - a mix of enterprise and beat reporters - will dominate stories about the products, personalities and priorities of Silicon Valley’s top AI companies. You are excited to get inside the company town halls, memos and turning points and can’t wait to help readers make sense of major developments.

The ideal candidate can produce a steady stream of scoops and strong analysis while working towards ambitious, long-form stories. Candidates should have three or more years of experience covering technology and proven track record of unearthing revelatory, exclusive information from within the walls of important companies. The reporter we seek can source at all levels of the company, knows how to listen for exclusive, revelatory details and wants to write frequently.

You Will

  • Maintain a track record of enviable scoops that reveal internal strategy and decision-making inside companies including Anthropic, OpenAI, Deep Mind, xAI and beyond.
  • Be deeply sourced across the ranks and workforce writ large at major AI companies
  • Develop original enterprise stories and balance advancing them with daily news demands
  • Work with colleagues across bureaus to keep our readers up to date on the fast-changing world of AI research and product development.

You Have

  • At least five years of professional journalism and preferably three years of experience covering technology
  • A demonstrated ability to write quickly and cleanly to break news and deliver impactful stories.
  • The ambition to separate from the pack and find original angles on stories the entire world is watching.
  • The metabolism to deliver a steady cadence of quick-turn news while advancing enterprise work
  • The persistence and skill required to unearth fresh, high-stakes stories through aggressive sourcing and document diving.
  • A collaborative spirit and a desire to partner with colleagues across the newsroom
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise with colleagues in other offices and time zones
