Position Description

The Department of Periodontics is responsible for providing periodontal pre‑clinical and clinical content within the dental school’s pre‑doctoral curriculum for DDS and IDS students. Pacific faculty engage in teaching, clinical activities, scholarship, professional development, and service. The successful candidate will provide didactic, pre‑clinical and clinical supervision of student learning experiences within the discipline.

Responsibilities General
  • Be a role model and actively promote ethics, humanism, professionalism, collaboration, and the vision/mission of the dental school.

  • Perform appropriate duties as assigned by the Department Chair.
Teaching
  • Deliver lectures, seminars, preclinical simulation exercises, clinical teaching, and online teaching to support the Department of Periodontics didactic, pre‑clinical, and clinical courses.
  • Serve as a course director for assigned predoctoral courses, with responsibility for course planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation.
  • Be accessible, approachable, and fair in your interactions with students.
  • Provide feedback and assessment using methods that preserve dignity, promote learning, develop consistency, and lead to valid outcomes.
  • Participate fully in department calibration exercises.
  • Utilize student ratings of instruction and peer evaluations to improve curricular content and delivery.
  • Promote patient‑centered care in our clinics.
  • Engage in faculty orientation and calibration.
  • Help set high standards of care for our clinics; refer when appropriate; and participate in quality assurance programs.
  • Be on time for clinical sessions for which you are responsible and stay the full session.
  • Provide periodontal surgical care, including evaluation, treatment planning, and surgery.
  • Participate in and provide coverage for evening/night clinic sessions as assigned to ensure continuity of patient care and student supervision.
  • Build research endeavors in which you are genuinely interested.
  • Demonstrate effort in scholarly activities including peer‑reviewed publications and presentations to colleagues.
  • Recognize that scholarship is necessary for promotion.
Service
  • Engage in service opportunities related to the dental school, the university, the profession, and the community.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
  • Dental school generalist teaching model, integrated interprofessional care, and competency‑based education and assessment methodology.
  • Accepted non‑surgical and surgical protocols for the periodontal management of patients.
  • Computer software to include Word, Excel, Axi Um, and PowerPoint.
Experience:
  • Minimum two years teaching experience in an accredited dental school setting.
