Salary Range: $119,860–$166,386 annually

Length of Appointment: PEX not to exceed three (3) years.

Position OverviewReport to the Director of Facilities Design and Construction; lead Facilities Design and Construction Department transformational work to deliver on SFUSD’s Facilities Capital Improvement Program. Coordinate design and construction of school projects K-12, act as liaison between District, school site administrators, parents, staff, architects and contractors to ensure projects are completed meeting approved policies, procedures, budget, and schedule.
Essential Duties- Plan, organize, direct and control all parts of school projects (K-12) from concept through design, construction, to closeout of the project contracts.
- Prepare and monitor project budgets, including support for obtaining funding.
- Coordinate work of a multidisciplinary development team across organizational boundaries, including design architects and construction professionals; coordinate hazmat abatement construction activities with District Haz Mat Consultant; control project cost and schedule; review change orders.
- Make presentations to school sites to inform them of project progress; ensure contractors maintain safe work sites and protect needs of students, teachers, and administrative staff.
- Ensure timely DSA closeout of school projects by working with architects, contractors, construction managers, inspectors, regulating authorities, and District Buildings and Grounds staff to resolve punch list items and other final activities.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Working level of AutoCAD computer drafting.
- Registered licensed architect in the state of California with experience in public school construction (K-12).
- Ability to supervise, prepare, or participate in design and production of final architectural contract documents for a wide variety of small construction and maintenance projects.
- Familiarity with the Division of State Architect (DSA), Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibilities Guidelines (ADAAG), and California accessibility requirements in Title 24 of California Code of Regulations.
- Bachelor’s Degree in architecture, engineering or planning plus four years of responsible architectural, engineering or construction management experience, OR a Bachelor’s Degree in another field plus six years of responsible experience in a directly related field, OR eight years of architectural, engineering or construction management experience in a directly related field, OR California registration as professional engineer or architect.
- Education requirement may be substituted for additional professional-level experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
