Position: Senior Landscape Architect/Designer, Project Manager (Full-Time)

Senior Landscape Designer / Project Manager

H. T. Harvey & Associates, an ecological consulting firm based in Northern California, is looking for a collaborative and creative senior designer to join the landscape architecture group in our San Francisco Bay Area office (Los Gatos, Santa Clara County). This position is full-time and can accommodate a hybrid schedule that allows for a combination of remote and in-office work. This is not a remote position, as work in the office is anticipated at least twice per week, and client project site visits will be required.

The anticipated pay range for this position is $98,500—$112,000 annually. Actual compensation within the range will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

About Us

The leaders in our landscape architecture group have unparalleled experience designing habitat restoration, open space, park, trail, and ecology-driven campus projects in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. The team is highly collaborative, fostering a strong culture of mentorship and support, learning from each other as well as from H. T. Harvey restoration, wildlife, botany and wetland, and aquatic ecologists.

Our

Work

The landscape architecture group's work focuses on restoring native habitats and creating nature experiences in open space, park, and business campus settings that are both engaging and educational. For example, our team:

  • Spearheads the planning and design of a 9-acre park on the San Francisco Bay shoreline. The future park will encompass new tidal marsh and transition zone habitats and educate visitors about sea level rise and Bay ecology.
  • Plays a key role in planning of outdoor spaces on business campuses, including design and construction oversight for native landscapes and multi-modal paths.
  • Assists the City of San Jose's Department of Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services with planning, monitoring, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of mitigation projects.
  • Collaborates with restoration ecologists and hydrologists to design a 100+ acre riparian floodplain and California sycamore restoration site.
What It's Like to Work on Our Team

Senior staff will mentor you, help you expand your landscape design skills, and develop project management skills. You'll also have opportunities to work with H. T. Harvey ecologists to build your understanding of the habitats and species in the areas where we work. As a member of our landscape architecture group, the types of work you'll contribute to include:

  • Analyzing site conditions, developing conceptual designs and construction documents.
  • Creating graphic plans and sections to support the ecological basis of design and planning for public access, creek, marsh and wetland restoration.
  • Assisting with construction period services, including site visits and contractor coordination.
  • Assisting restoration, wildlife, and plant ecologists with field work, including conducting field surveys and long-term monitoring of restoration sites.
  • Project managers will also develop proposals, help build and manage client relationships, and serve as a liaison with project partners, agency contacts, and project stakeholders.
Competencies, Skills, and Experience

We assume those who want to join our team as a senior landscape designer / project manager have a strong and relevant background, prior applicable experience, and a demonstrated interest in ecology. We're looking for candidates who have:

  • Academic degree in landscape architecture (MLA preferred)
  • 5―10 years of design experience in a professional setting. Experience designing parks and urban environments is a must (e.g., paving, plazas, boardwalks, custom furnishings, tree wells/rooting volumes, interpretive elements, etc.)
  • A keen design sense
  • Understanding of and interest in ecological processes and habitat design in wildland and developed contexts. Prior experience collaborating with scientific experts and conveying ecological approaches into the design process
  • Well-versed and efficient in AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite. 3D modeling experience is a plus (Sketchup, Revit, AutoCAD Civil3D)
  • Adept at hand rendering
  • Strong technical skills at all phases of design and construction,…
