Within the Lawrence Hall of Science, The Center for STEM Pathways and Teen Research Programs deliver high-quality, hands-on research opportunities to youth in the Bay Area. We seek talented, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic STEM educators to mentor youth in STEM career pathways.

Job Summary

The main role for the position of the Teen Research Program Instructor is to facilitate programming in an engaging, supportive, and hands-on environment while supplying accurate scientific information. This may involve further reading or research on a STEM subject matter. This position will facilitate programs in an energetic, appropriate, and professional way that actively engages teen participants and manages a safe, accessible, and comfortable learning environment for all.

This position is an ideal opportunity for a Graduate or Undergraduate Student interested in the intersection of STEM and education. As a STEM instructor, you will facilitate fun, engaging, and meaningful hands-on science learning for teens. It is a great opportunity for professional growth and you will gain valuable experience in teaching about science, technology, engineering, and math to middle and high school youth.
  • Develop an understanding of, and the ability to facilitate STEM Teen Research Camp programming in a fun, engaging, hands-on environment while supplying accurate scientific information. This may involve further reading or research on a subject or topic.
  • Present programs in an energetic, appropriate and way that actively engages teens while managing a learning environment for participants' well-being and safety.
  • Be responsible for materials management, including set-up, clean-up, and storage.
  • Thoroughly understand building safety and security protocols and implement emergency procedures.
  • Serve as an enthusiastic role model and mentor for teens.
  • Adhere to all of the policies and procedures of UC Berkeley and The Lawrence.
