Job Summary:
The Department of Biology at the University of San Francisco invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position to begin August 2026. Applications are invited in the area of Bioinformatics. We are interested in candidates who develop and employ informatics and computational approaches to understand complex biological systems, ranging from microbial systems to humans, and from molecular to ecosystem levels.

Job Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be dedicated to excellence in undergraduate teaching, will be expected to teach upper division courses in Bioinformatics and/or other topics in Biology, and may be required to contribute to teaching General Biology, Genetics, or Evolution, and as well as courses in our associated biotechnology graduate and undergraduate programs. The successful candidate will also be expected to apply for extramural funding to support his or her research program, and should be committed to involving undergraduate researchers in their work.
The teaching load is typically 18 units per year. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in service to the program and college.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants should have a Ph.D. or equivalent in Biology or a related discipline, post-doctoral experience, and a strong track record in the analysis of genomics, proteomics, or high-throughput biochemical data, or in modeling complex biological systems, such as regulatory networks, using a range of statistical, mathematical, and bioinformatics approaches. This position requires a commitment to excellence in teaching within a culturally diverse environment.
In addition, a strong record of teaching at the university level, evidence of scholarship, and an understanding of and commitment to supporting the mission of the University of San Francisco are required.
Applicants should submit a cover letter summarizing interests and qualifications, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy and interests (which should include reflection on teaching in a culturally diverse educational environment), evidence of teaching ability (e.g., sample syllabi, teaching evaluations), a statement of research interests, and three letters of recommendation (to be requested upon submission of application).
