Southeast Asian Development Center's (SEADC) mission is to foster a healthy, thriving, and self-sufficient Southeast Asian American community.
Founded in 1977 in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District, the Southeast Asian Development Center, formerly Vietnamese Youth Development Center (VYDC), is a nonprofit organization dedicated to lifting children, youth, and families from Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam out of poverty. Our services are structured around providing low income and vulnerable Southeast Asian Americans with basic needs and skills critical to building successful futures.
We provide jobs, academic support, language service, health, and wellness, promote cultural resiliency and social guidance.
The Youth Program Educator(YPE) develops strong, nurturing relationships with elementary school-age youth,the majority of whom are new to the United States.
TheYPEprovidesday-to-day academic support,facilitates enrichment activities, andmaintainscommunications with families, school day staff, and community partners.
The YPE is flexible with varying schedules and activities during the week.
The objective is to prepare youth in kindergarten through 12th grade to be college and career ready. Project activities include daily out-of-school time, during the school year and summer with the focus on tutoring, homework support, life skills, enriching social and cultural experiences, teen leadership development, career exploration, and job placements.
Position Title: Youth Program Educator
Compensation: $22-26 hour DOE, Nonexempt;
Full time, expected hours of work 37.5 hours per week

- Facilitate implementation of after school and summer programs for youth, Monday–Friday, including daily chaperoning and homework help.
- Support youth in developing the skills they need to be successful in school and life.
- Promote a safe and positive learning environment.
- Plan andfacilitateculturally relevant lesson plans,workshops,and activities focused on identity,leadership, academic enrichment and health and wellness.
- Supervise a minimum of 10 students daily with various activities at the office and outside in the community
- Dailyfood prep and service to youth.
- Support the recruitment of youth for after-schooland summer programming to reach participation targets, including schooland neighborhood outreach.
- Support and build strong rapport with program participants to ensure retention and program success.
- Communicate and work collaboratively with Program Manage rand Youth Development members.
- Maintain regular communications with families, school-day staff, and community partners.
- Identify participants needing additional social and emotional one-on-one support to team.
- Purchase program materials and supplies and maintain classroom organization/cleanliness.
- Assist with supervising volunteers and youth workers.
- Daily data entry, including but not limited to food service, Salesforce client data, funder-required reporting. Attend agency events and meetings, team meetings, and professional development training; attend training required by funder.
- Assist with organizing and facilitating agency-wide events and activities.
- Collaborate with non-Youth Development staff on relevant youth-centric programming.
- Other duties assigned by supervisor.
- 1 or more years’ experience working with diverse youth, kindergarten through 8th grade
- Provide support to youth in 1:1 and small groups, up to 10 youth simultaneously. Able to supervise youth at ratio of 1 staff to 10 youth minimum
- Demonstrate effectiveness in classroom management, including after school and summer programming
- Work effectively individually and in a team setting with or without supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with both youth and adults
