Description
At San Francisco University High School, we believe that the deepest learning requires collaboration
among people who embody a diversity of backgrounds, beliefs, experiences, and perspectives. In order to
build and sustain a community that is comprised of a wide range of social and cultural identities, we must
continually engage in furthering our self-knowledge, equity literacy, and ability to communicate effectively
across differences. We challenge ourselves to do this work on both a personal and institutional level,
recognizing that our community is part of a larger and more complex world.
San Francisco University High School is a college preparatory school. We seek teachers who are
thoroughly educated in their disciplines, who are devoted to the love of learning, and who will contribute to
the school's invigorating intellectual climate. Throughout the school, we seek to hire adults who are
stimulating and supportive in their work with students and who share our belief in the moral and
educational value of diversity.
Requirements
We are seeking a part-time art instructor who is qualified to teach two sections of introductory painting and one section of introductory drawing in the Fall term; two sections of intermediate painting and one section of intermediate drawing in the Spring term. Additional responsibilities may include mentoring a designated group of high school students as part of the UHS mentoring program.
This position collaborates and works within our diverse Visual Arts program with practicing artists who teach mediums ranging from ceramic sculpture to darkroom photography. Candidates should be comfortable collaborating on curriculum and assessment and have the requisite technical expertise to teach students with no experience in any visual arts medium. Prior high school teaching experience is desirable. We are especially interested in candidates who are practicing artists and have familiarity with a variety of mediums.
