ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR/SENIOR COUNSELOR Career Development Office

Classification: Level 3 / Class 1717 / Full Time (on-site/hybrid) / Exempt / Benefitted / Non-Represented

Hiring Salary: $80, annually, Commensurate with experience

Term: One-year term

THE ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Associate Director/Senior Counselor provides counseling and coaching to students and alumni, as well as assisting with programming and resources managed by the Career Development Office. The Associate Director will have regular meetings with the Assistant Dean for the Career Development Office, within which the position is housed, and will be involved in other Career Office efforts and programming.

The Associate Director will assess and continuously improve the programs, resources and advising tools and approaches to support student and alumni career and professional development within this arena. The Associate Director will work with other constituencies, including faculty, faculty committees, the clinics and centers, student organizations, and other departments to promote these goals and to integrate efforts across all sectors of the campus.

Typical duties and responsibilities consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Counsels and coaches students and alumni concerning career planning and job search strategies, as well as overall professional development;
  • Create and deliver programming content, workshops, and other student facing events related to professional development, career planning and job search;
  • Produce job search and professional development materials including handouts and videos;
  • Instructs and assists students in the preparation of effective resumes and associated application materials, interviews, negotiations, and other job search strategies/processes;
  • Establishes and maintains professional relationships with employers to enhance job opportunities;
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • J.D. Degree and at least three years of legal practice;
  • Demonstrated experience delivering group presentations and/or developing educational materials or programming.
PREFFERED BUT NOT REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
  • Experience in career and/or professional development counseling in a law school or legal environment;
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities, including counseling, outreach, and programming;
  • Coaching experience and/or certification.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of the legal profession and related recruiting practices and hiring needs of legal employment;
  • Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, communication and counseling skills;
  • Project management skills;
  • Ability to interact with all segments of the legal community and provide programming and resources for a diverse law school population;
  • Outstanding communication skills, both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to formulate, implement, conduct, and facilitate career related workshops and comfortable presenting to audiences of all sizes.
