Adjunct Faculty - College of Nursing; San Mateo Campus

Samuel Merritt University College of Nursing (CoN) invites adjunct faculty (Theory and Clinical) to teach at the Fresno, Oakland, Sacramento, and San Mateo campuses.

• Create a dynamic, learner‑centered environment that supports the diverse learning needs of students, grounded in educational theory and evidence‑based teaching practices.
• Model reflective and critical thinking, coach and mentor students, and confer with them on progress to facilitate successful achievement of course objectives.
• Meet with program faculty as needed to review courses, student evaluations, and recommend changes.
• Complete required orientation for both theory and clinical courses, including site orientation and maintaining clinical competency.
• Plan appropriate learning experiences for each student level and review written assignments, providing timely feedback and learning plans when necessary.
• Evaluate learner performance, give ongoing feedback, and submit grades to the Registrar within the academic calendar deadlines.
• Notify program directors and course managers of at‑risk students or unusual occurrences at least weekly.
• Participate in program faculty meetings and faculty course meetings throughout the semester.

• BSN required;
  Master’s in Nursing preferred.
• Demonstrated competence in theory or clinical teaching area.
• Effective leadership and communication skills.
• Prior experience in theory or clinical teaching preferred.
• Unencumbered RN license or eligibility in California.

Compensation: $600–$8,000 per teaching assignment, dependent on qualifications, geographic location, and other relevant factors.

Employee Status: Fixed Term, Part time, Exempt.
