Position: Full-Time Secondary English Teacher

Full‑Time Secondary English Teacher Position

The Lycée Français de San Francisco is currently seeking qualified applicants for a Full‑Time Secondary (6th-12th grade) English Language Arts teacher for the  school year.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in English language and literature, along with a strong understanding of bilingual education. The Secondary English Teacher will be responsible for delivering engaging and rigorous English language instruction to students, fostering language development and critical thinking skills within a bilingual context. This role requires creativity, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to promoting a positive learning environment where students can thrive academically and linguistically.

The Lycée Français de San Francisco is a French Immersion College Preparatory School in the San Francisco Bay Area. We provide a challenging educational environment based on the French national curriculum and the International Baccalaureate framework, enriched by English classes from PS-12th grade. Our curriculum is designed to provide students with a well‑structured, well‑assimilated body of general knowledge while encouraging the development of analytical and critical thinking skills.

Our students earn an American high school diploma, as well as prepare for the French Baccalauréat or the DP IB, which qualifies them for both American and European Universities.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver English Language Curriculum: Design and implement comprehensive English language instruction aligned with Lycée curriculum standards, incorporating literature, writing, grammar, and vocabulary development.
  • Integrate Language

    Skills:

    Integrate language skills such as reading, writing, speaking, and listening into lesson plans to support students' English language development.
  • Foster Language Proficiency: Create opportunities for students to practice and develop their English language proficiency through various activities, discussions, projects, and assessments.
  • Cultural Awareness: Incorporate cultural elements into English language instruction to broaden students' understanding of English‑speaking countries and promote cultural diversity, aligned with our DEIB standards.
  • Differentiated Instruction: Utilize differentiated instruction techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities, ensuring all students have the opportunity to succeed and progress in their English language skills.
  • Assessment and Feedback: Implement ongoing assessment strategies to monitor student progress and provide timely feedback to support their language development.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues, including French language teachers and other subject area teachers, to support interdisciplinary learning and promote language integration across the curriculum.
  • Parent Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with parents/guardians regarding students' progress, challenges, and achievements in English language learning.
  • Professional Development: Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay current with best practices.
  • Extracurricular Involvement: Participate in extracurricular activities, clubs, and events that contribute to the overall school community and support students' holistic development.
Other Duties
  • Abide by all Lycée safety protocols.
  • Display appropriate dress, behavior, and language at all times.
  • Treat all students, parents, and colleagues with dignity and respect.
  • Attend all staff meetings, in‑service meetings, and training sessions.
  • Participate in school field trips and Lycée Global Learning Program.
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.
  • Effectively manage class discipline, using positive methods as much as possible.
  • Use the LMS (Learning Management System) to post homework, tests, grades, and resource materials.
  • Punctual presence in all classes and meetings, and in the completion of all duties, including posting homework, correcting returning graded work, posting grades.
  • Participation in school events including:
    • Open Houses / Lycée Forward
    • Pedagogical Councils
    • Parent‑Teacher conferences
    • Class Councils
