Part‑time Math Tutor – Sylvan Learning of San Francisco

San Francisco, CA, US – West Portal center.

• Deliver expert instruction from elementary basics to advanced high‑school math (Algebra I & II, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Pre‑Calculus; calculus experience is a bonus).
• Simplify complex concepts into clear, visual explanations tailored to each student.
• Share enthusiasm and build excitement for challenging problems.
• Greet students warmly and build rapport at the start of every session.
• Use praise, encouragement, and Sylvan “tokens” to celebrate milestones.
• Manage time, tasks, and student progress to keep sessions productive and structured.
• Track progress and record outcomes to showcase growth.
• Communicate student needs with Center staff, participate in team huddles, and ongoing growth training.

• At least two years of college‑level math and a strong grasp of K‑12 curricula, especially advanced high‑school math.
• Comfortable teaching Algebra I & II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre‑Calculus; calculus experience is a bonus.
• Fun, engaging, coaching‑oriented personality.
• Ability to captivate attention, reduce math anxiety, and inspire love for learning.
• Exceptional communication and creative teaching skills.
• Strong multi‑tasking, flexibility, positive problem‑solving attitude.
• Team‑player spirit.

We tutor in‑person at the West Portal center. Available blocks:

• Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 3:30PM–7:30PM
• Wednesday: 2:30PM–6:30PM
• Saturday: 9:30AM–2:30PM

Applicants with criminal histories are considered per California Fair Chance Act and SF Fair Chance Ordinance; job offers subject to background check.
