Aboutthe Role
As an 8th-Grade Language Arts Teacher at Stratford School, you will play a pivotal role in preparing students for the transition to high school. You will implement an advanced curriculum taught at a high school level, designed to foster deep critical thinking, sophisticated textual analysis, and advanced communication skills. This is a wonderful and rewarding teaching opportunity for an educator passionate about cultivating a lifelong love for literature while equipping students with the essential literacy skills required for their next academic chapter.
Additionally, as an 8th-grade teacher, you will be an important participant in the high school application process, including writing high school recommendations.

Pay Range: $70,000 - $77,000

- Curriculum & Advanced Instruction:
Plan, supervise, and implement an 8th-grade Language Arts curriculum covering Writing, Literature, Poetry, Grammar, and Vocabulary. - High School Readiness:
Guide students to read, analyze, interpret, and confidently share their unique perspectives on complex texts, ensuring they are fully prepared for high school-level academics. - Literary Analysis:
Teach a deeper understanding of literature by guiding students to identify themes, author's intent, historical context, methodology, style, and modern relevance. - High School Placement Support:
Actively participate in the high school application process, including writing thoughtful, impactful high school recommendations for matriculating students. - Classroom Culture:
Maintain an organized, inclusive, and highly engaging classroom environment that encourages respectful discourse and intellectual curiosity. - Collaboration:
Collaborate with other middle school faculty and staff members to ensure vertical alignment and a cohesive student experience.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in English, Secondary Education, or a related field (Master's degree or teaching credential preferred). - Literary Expertise:
The ability to enthusiastically communicate an appreciation of classic short stories, poetry, Shakespeare, Orwell, and Mark Twain. - Versatile Teaching Methodologies:
Deep understanding of, and experience with, direct instruction, project-based learning, and teacher‑coached, student‑led teaching methods. - Standards & Strategy Knowledge:
Deep knowledge of language arts curriculum standards and advanced instructional strategies suited for high‑achieving middle schoolers. - Skills:
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with a knack for connecting with early adolescents and collaborating effectively within a team environment.
