Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Instructional Aide (A01)
Job Class: Instruction Aide TK (A01)
Salary Range: $34.25-$45.54 hourly
Location: Multiple Sites
Calendar: Part Time / School Year
Key Responsibilities and Role DetailsDuties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assist the teacher in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate, play‑based instruction aligned with early learning standards
- Support small group and individual instruction in early literacy, language development, foundational math, and social‑emotional skills
- Help explain concepts, guide learning activities, and reinforce lessons through hands‑on experiences
- Prepare, organize, and maintain instructional materials, supplies, and classroom learning environments
- Observe and support student progress; assist with documentation and maintaining student work samples or portfolios
- Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, outdoor play, meals, and field trips to ensure safety and appropriate behavior
- Support positive behavior using consistent, non‑punitive strategies aligned with classroom and school expectations
- Assist with snack and meal preparation and supervision
- Support daily routines, including restroom supervision and classroom setup/cleanup
- Monitor common areas (e.g., yard, cafeteria, hallways) as assigned
- Provide basic first aid as needed and report injuries or concerns to appropriate staff
- Assist with communication with families and support a welcoming classroom environment
- Maintain records related to attendance, materials, and classroom activities
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent AND passed District Instructional Aide Exam; OR
- High school diploma or equivalent AND passed CBEST; OR
- High school diploma or equivalent AND 48 college units (official transcripts required); OR
- Associate's degree or higher
- Completion of six (6) semester units of Early Childhood Education (ECE), preferred
- Experience working with young children in an educational setting
- Bilingual skills (e.g., Cantonese or Spanish) desirable
