The Director of Early Childhood Programs shall be responsible for leading the operation, coordination and management of two Child Development Center (CDC) laboratory schools at City College of San Francisco (CCSF) Ocean Campus and Mission Center as well as the Family Resource Center (FRC) at Mission Center. Under the direction of the Dean of Business, Child Development, Culinary, Fashion, & Horticulture, the Director supervises classified staff and supports faculty at both CDCs and the FRC, engages in outreach, recruitment and partnership efforts to increase awareness and enrollment, seeks and procures various funding sources while managing grants and ensuring compliance, establishes and maintains lines of communication and positive relationships with the CDC staff, parents/guardians of enrolled students, and the Child Development & Family Studies (CDEV) Department faculty, staff and students, and collaborates with early child development agencies and affiliates.
In coordination with the administrative team and the CDEV Department Chair, the Director is expected to be the primary manager/administrator for all matters related to these CCSF's noncredit early childhood programs, including day-to-day operational logistics, staffing coverage, curriculum, complaints, facilities, classroom supplies and equipment, food and nutrition, audits, licensing requirements, year-end reports, budget management, safety measures, and professional development. Follows established policies, procedures and directives set by the California Community Care Licensing Division and California Department of Education.
This is an IN-PERSON ON-CAMPUS position.
To administer and supervise the day-to-day activities of CCSF Child Development Center at Ocean Campus and Mission Center and Family Resource Center at Mission Center.
This class specification is not necessarily all-inclusive in terms of the duties and responsibilities.
Job Duties:
- Assumes responsibility for the daily administration, operation, coordination, and supervision of CCSF CDC lab schools in-person at Ocean Campus and Mission Center and the FRC at Mission Center.
- Oversees adherence and compliance with established policies, procedures and directives set by the California Community Care Licensing Division and California Department of Education (as well as at the federal and local level) related to early childhood programs to ensure compliance with all grants and funders related to these programs.
- Seeks substitutes to provide CDC coverage when necessary to have adequate caregiver-to-student ratio as well as FRC coverage when needed to assist families enrolled at the Mission Center CDC.
- Hires, supervises, trains, evaluates, and provides professional development to all CDC staff, including best practices, licensure, policies and regulations, health and safety, teambuilding, and monitoring staff permits and training required by the field.
- Facilitates regular staff meetings, engages in open, constructive and consistent communication, handles personnel requests, and coordinates payroll reporting.
- Serves as a resource to parents and families, meets with parents and families, refers them to various services for additional support, and provides parent training and education.
- Collaborates with CDC staff to use developmentally-appropriate practices, lesson plans and daily/weekly schedule.
- Provides regular updates and confers with the supervising dean in a timely manner about important matters to collaboratively make informed decisions.
- Troubleshoots, deescalates and resolves complaints and issues (e.g., classroom behavior, health and safety, and workplace conflicts) while setting expectations and maintaining confidentiality and professional conduct.
- Coordinates the parent and student enrollment process, orientation and participation within the CDC in collaboration with CDC staff.
- Provides information and feedback to CDEV Department Chair and faculty related to CDC program development.
- Submits facilities-related work order requests and consults with Facilities personnel to resolve equipment issues (i.e., washer and dryer, heating system, and dishwasher).
- Establishes lab school program philosophy in collaboration with CDC staff and sets operational goals, standards and expectations as well as vision for implementation.
- Oversees the development and administration of the CDC lab schools annual budget by forecasting funds needed for staffing, equipment, supplies, and materials.
- Manages CDC budget, monitors and approves expenditures, implements adjustments, and oversees food program logistics (i.e., purchasing, inventory, distribution, and nutrition/dietary).
- Takes responsibility for the demonstration of developmentally appropriate practices based on current child development information, practices and research.
