- Execute the full schedule of the regular teacher. This includes the classroom day, study halls, yard duty, and any special duties the absent teacher performs.
- Implement the lesson plans assigned to the class and correct classroom assignments and homework received, as time permits.
- Create and maintain classroom control and discipline that fosters a safe and productive learning environment in accordance with school policies.
- Create and maintain a climate of respect and fairness for all students.
- Escalate to school administrators as appropriate when a serious discipline problem arises.
- Leave adequate notes regarding what was accomplished in class, a description of problems that may have occurred, and resolutions to said problems, a lesson plan for the next day if applicable, and any other information that an administrator may require.
- Report to school 15‑30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each assignment, and remain after the assignment to tidy up the classroom and return any materials to the front office.
- MUST be a current SFUSD Student Teacher enrolled in a SFUSD Student Teacher program, no exceptions.
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited undergraduate institution.
- Certificate of Clearance (COC).
- Clear CA Teaching Credential OR 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit.
- Negative TB test administered within 60 days of hire.
- Be patient: remain calm in difficult situations.
- Be flexible and adaptable: make quick decisions on the fly.
- Be resilient: have a thick skin and understand where kids are coming from.
- Be creative: engage kids in multiple ways.
- Be sensitive to cultural differences.
- Be firm: maintain classroom control.
- Be caring: prioritize the needs of the students.
- Get to know their students!
- Build good relationships with school staff.
