ResponsibilitiesUnder supervision of a teacher/administrator, assists in the direct delivery of instruction in a classroom setting for pupils eligible for special education services under Deaf/Hard of Hearing determinations as identified by an IEP or IFSP. Primary objective is to facilitate access to curriculum content and support learning for mastery using instructional methods suitable for deaf/hard of hearing students. The employee assists certificated staff by implementing lesson plans, participating in parent conferences, proctoring examinations, maintaining records, operating instructional equipment and software, and performing related duties.
An ability to translate and adapt materials to and from English into other languages may be required if the position has a language suffix. In some roles, the employee must furnish a certificate of clearance from the Department of Motor Vehicles to meet insurability requirements.
- Assist in planning lessons and preparing instructional materials for severely impaired pupils.
- Supervise and/or tutor individuals or small groups in accordance with an IEP, conducting planned lessons in the classroom or other educational locations.
- Explain subject matter, administer tests, correct and review assignments, maintain pupil profiles, and assist in evaluating pupils.
- Prepare and maintain records and lists as appropriate for instructional support.
- Prepare, operate, and maintain instructional equipment and supplies; procure and store equipment; issue supplies and maintain records.
- Assist in maintaining classroom discipline and behavior management; support students on field trips and school activities.
- Monitor designated areas as needed and provide safety and supervision as required.
- Render first aid in accordance with safety guidelines and report incidents to the supervisor.
- Assist with publicizing educational development programs and communicating objectives and functions.
- Assist with pupils’ personal cares as required (e.g., lifting, toileting, feeding, positioning).
- Perform related duties as required.
