Responsibilities
- Gain on the ground experience working directly with students at one of our schools in the San Francisco Unified School District
- Receive training on a variety of topics including teaching methodologies, lesson planning, classroom management
- Help build cultural and educational bridges with students and their families
- Work in a friendly and supportive environment with a team of amazing educators
- Plan and lead daily academic and enrichment activities for about twenty students
- Utilize standards‑based curriculum to write lesson plans infusing students' literacy development
- Lead an enrichment class (e.g., art, drumming, gardening) each semester
- Develop and integrate college "culture‑building" activities into the classroom
- Coordinate and support volunteers in the classroom
- Develop a nurturing, safe, respectful, multicultural learning environment
- Support students to reach specific literacy benchmarks
- Facilitate vocabulary building and reading comprehension activities that build upon the “school day” learning objectives
- Design, develop and implement theme & project‑based learning projects that support student academic and personal achievement
- Assist in community outreach, parent communication, and volunteer supervision
- Coordinate ongoing communication and feedback systems with families, teachers and volunteers
- Assist in the daily operations of the EDP including supervising youth, administrative tasks and staff development
- Maintain accurate youth files and records—attendance, student behavior, and other evaluation forms to track student progress
- Participate in staff development, team, and supervision meetings
- Provide overall support of the program, including support for field trips, special events and parent workshops
- Plan and coordinate field trips, parent events, and other school‑wide events
- Serve as part of the larger Mission Graduates team
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Non‑exempt, 0.75 FTE (30 hrs/week—12:15 pm‑6:15 pm)

Qualifications- Candidates must meet at least one of the following educational requirements:
- An Associate’s (AA) degree or higher
- Official transcripts reflecting completion of 48 college units and a high school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of the CBEST and a high school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of the IA Exam / CODESP and a high school diploma or equivalent
- Proof of qualification will be required at the time of hire
- TB test clearance required prior to hire
- Strong interest in education and teaching
- Understanding of youth development principles
- Passion for working with students and youth, including openness to alternative, non‑institutional teaching methods
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse communities and demonstrate cultural competency
- Experience working in communities of color and/or with low‑income populations
- Strong organizational skills, flexibility, and initiative
