- 18+ for elementary programs; 21+ for middle school programs.
- Associate’s degree or higher, or High School diploma/equivalent with one of the following:
- 48+ completed college units (verified by transcript)
- Passing score on the CA Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST)
- Passing score on a District Instructional Aide Exam
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Knowledge of youth development principles.
- Available Monday–Friday during program hours.
- TB Test clearance within last 2 years (required for programs on school district sites).
- Bachelor’s degree in child development or related field or equivalent professional and community experience.
- Experience working with elementary or middle school‑aged youth.
- Bilingual skills in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or other languages.
- Knowledge of arts, dance, drama, sports, or other enrichment areas.
The After School Program Leader provides meaningful opportunities for youth in YMCA programs at local elementary and middle schools. They work under the supervision of Program Site Coordinators and Directors and are expected to demonstrate flexibility, initiative, and punctuality, with a commitment to the school‑year schedule.
After School Program Dates- San Francisco Sites:
August 10, 2026 – June 2, 2027 - Marin Sites:
August 17, 2026 – June 11, 2027
- Design and implement engaging, inclusive, and theme‑based curricula that reflect the developmental stages and cultural backgrounds of youth.
- Facilitate academic enrichment, tutoring, and structured outdoor recreational activities.
- Partner with staff, caregivers, and participants to plan and enhance program offerings.
- Supervision & Safety
- Supervise groups of up to 20 students, ensuring a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment in alignment with YMCA and child safety protocols.
- Actively monitor participants, respond promptly to incidents, and consistently apply safety guidelines.
- Record‑Keeping & Compliance
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date program records, including attendance, emergency information, and safety documentation.
- Communication & Engagement
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with participants, caregivers, staff, and volunteers to support a positive program experience.
- Training & Development
- Complete required safety and program training before the first shift and attend all mandatory meetings and training sessions.
The After School Program Leader works in a dynamic environment at local elementary or middle school sites, including indoor classrooms and outdoor schoolyards.
