- Implements AT/AAC devices
- Facilitates interaction between students who require AT/AAC devices and their classmates
- Assists in planning lessons and preparing instructional materials for severely impaired pupils
- Working in accordance with an individualized education program (IEP), supervises and/or tutors individuals or small groups of pupils in specific skill and/or content areas. Conducts planned lessons with assigned groups in the classroom or other assigned educational location.
- Administers tests and examinations, interprets assessments for students with assistive technology needs, reviews, corrects and re-views assignments, and maintains individual pupil profiles
- Assists in maintaining a log of all hardware, software, AT/AAC devices used throughout the District.
- Enforces classroom and school rules. May assist other designated school staff in monitoring halls, locker areas, cafeteria, yard, auditorium, gymnasium, lavatories, and other areas of the site in accordance with program regulations.
- Renders first aid in compliance with modern precautionary methods. Reports disciplinary problems and injury incidents to the proper supervisor.
- May assist the professional staff in publicizing educational development programs by issuing information, objectives, and functions of the program.
- Assist with pupils’ personal needs such as lifting, toileting, feeding, diapering and positioning if required.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Escort students to various locations on and off school campus
- Assist students in their understanding and comprehension of all subjects taught to grade-level peers
- Reinforce instruction as directed by the teacher or lesson plan and assist with preparation and presentation of learning materials and instructional exercises including administering, correcting and recording student tests, essays, and assignments as directed
- Perform all related duties as assigned
- Commitment to successfully complete the American Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR trainings within 90 days if the candidate is not already in possession of valid certificates.
- Commitment to partake in and successfully complete the CPI training prior to entering the classroom if not already possessing that certificate.
Willingness to work with, and basic background knowledge of, interventions for working with students with significant social-emotional and behavioral needs.
Ability to follow appropriate safety precaution guidelines and procedures and make judgment calls during a crisis, across all school settings and activities.
Strong interpersonal skills using tact, patience, firmness, caring, courtesy, and consistency.
Use and operation of a word processor, iPad, computer, and standard office equipment, ability to collect data in a systematic manner.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma/equivalent.
- An Associate of Arts Degree or higher, OR 48 college units, OR High School Diploma/equivalent and passing of CBEST examination.
- One year of successful experience working with students who have significant social-emotional and/or behavioral needs, i.e. direct student care or as an instructional aide working in a public school, nonpublic school or nonpublic agency setting.
