Rate is set in accordance with the City College of San Francisco Faculty Salary Schedule for hourly assignments. Currently the rate upon entry is from $90.90 to $160.48 per hour depending upon placement.
Position Description
City College of San Francisco is a public, two‑year community college dedicated to serving minority and undocumented students and those new to this country. It offers credit and non‑credit instruction and more than 300 degrees and certificates. The Department of Kinesiology, Athletics and Dance is looking to fill a part‑time dance faculty position. The instructor should be well‑versed in all levels of ballet technique.
Experience in teaching other types of dance is welcome but not the primary focus.
Job Duties Teach in‑person one or more in the anticipated areas needed:
Primarily Beginning/Intermediate/Advanced Ballet Technique, with the option for Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap Dance, and Yoga.Teach day, evening, and/or Saturday classes at one or more sites as required.Evaluate student performance and progress through in‑class observation, practical skills and technique test, and written assignments.Create lesson plans that reflect approved department course outlines.Participate in instructional‑related and departmental activities, including curriculum development, selection of appropriate instructional materials, revision of instructional and testing materials, assessment of student learning outcomes, and keeping required attendance records.Participate in department and dance program events that include productions, choreographing for student performances, and supervising dance activities that follow departmental guidelines.Participate in department and college functions, such as staff meetings, committee work, and technical trainings.Support and engage in an innovative culture of culturally responsive, inclusive and anti‑racist practices as it relates to student success with an awareness of student equity gaps.Participate in ongoing training on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti‑racism to center pedagogy.Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds (Required).Earned Master’s Degree in Dance, physical education with a dance emphasis, or theater with a dance emphasis from an accredited institution; or the equivalent.Or earned a Bachelor’s degree in any of the above from an accredited institution and earned a Master’s Degree in physical education, any life science, physiology, theater arts, kinesiology, humanities, performing arts or music from an accredited institution; or the equivalent.Or hold a fully satisfied LIFE California Community College Instructor Credential in Physical education (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990).Candidate must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.Desirable Qualifications
Experience teaching one or more of the following in post‑secondary education:
Ballet Technique, Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap Dance, and Yoga.Ability to teach beginning through advanced levels of Ballet Technique.Practical demonstrative abilities and active participation in teaching students physical/dance technique.A strong pedagogical and technical approach to dance course areas.Ability to motivate and teach in ways appropriate to diverse backgrounds and learning styles of community college students.Certification in Yoga RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher 200‑Hour Certification through a Program recognized by the Yoga Alliance) and/or other certifications in Dance (Graham Certified, Cunningham Certified, ect.).Demonstrated ability to develop and revise curriculum that reflects current trends in the above dance courses.Ability and/or experience in grant writing.Evidence of successful instructional experience at the university or college level using culturally…
