Microbiology and Immunology – Faculty Position (Ladder Rank) – Assistant Professor

Position OverviewThe Department of Microbiology and Immunology seeks a tenure‑track faculty member at the Assistant Professor level to join the Integrative Microbiology (iMicro) program, focusing on Microbiology, Microbial Pathogenesis and Host Response, Virology, and Innate Immunity. The program spans the Parnassus and Mission Bay campuses of UCSF, with research space located at Mission Bay.
Responsibilities- Establish and maintain a cutting‑edge research program in the areas described above.
- Excellently teach undergraduate and graduate courses.
- Engage in graduate student mentorship and participate in basic science graduate programs (e.g., Biomedical Sciences and Tetrad).
- Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree (or pending at appointment).
- Demonstrated significant potential in the field.
- Strong record of research and teaching potential.
- Curriculum Vitae (must list current or pending degrees).
- Cover Letter.
- Statement of Research (1‑page summary of accomplishments and 1‑2 page future research plans).
- Statement of Teaching.
- Three references (contact information).
- Copies of major publications (optional).
Location:
San Francisco, CA.
Applications will be considered starting October 15, 2026. The position may be filled between May 2027 – November 2027.
Salary: $126 800–$164 300 (minimum base salary range) plus potential additional compensation.
